Construction, Restoration & Remodeling

The purpose of this website is to give you a more complete picture of my capabilities and experiences, than the usual standard online application with limited multiple choice answers is able to convey.  At the end of this page are buttons to view other types of work I have done, as well as a multi-career overview (Introduction) page.

I enjoy working with my hands and the satisfaction of  seeing a well designed item created or an antique restored.  I have done renovations, repairs, upgrades and restorations on three 1880's Victorian Houses, a 1925 two-story Mediterranean Revival home, a 1960 6,000 sq ft. contemporary quad-level home, transformed a rustic country home, and others.

 Antiques repaired, restored & refinished,  . . .
be they furniture or houses.

Before and after renovation, removing interior walls, adding suspended support in the attic for the ceiling, installing custom French doors at existing window, I designed and built (with no pre-fab items other than the interior firebrick), the custom stone fireplace with split level mahogany mantle, built to surpass seismic standards, shares the chimney with kitchen's range hood and patio grill hood (below).  Stone and firebrick hearth includes two counter surfaces, wood & utensil storage areas, and a 3-foot by 5-foot grill surface.

Floor construction using travertine tile, mahogany wood, and hand-painted tile medallion inset.
Hand-tooled mock-travertine tiles with mahogany and hand-painted tile medallion inset.

My experience isn't limited to antique homes; this 6000 sq. ft. four-level contemporary classic was built in 1960.

Repairs include roof, pool & spa re-plumbing, painting, solid wood paneling restoration, and boathouse/dock renovation (not shown).

I also have experience with architectural software (CAD) in two and three-dimensional renditions.  Here is an example of a proposed floor plan to convert the 1887 single family home (photo at the top of this page), into an eight-room bed and breakfast adding a private bathroom for each guestroom, plus a common dining area, reception area and enlarged "show kitchen" authentic for the Victorian period.

I look forward to meeting with you and discussing the possibilities!
